On July 22, a briefing was held on the status of implementation of the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated July 24, 2023 “On the allocation of financial resources for the expansion of the radio broadcasting network in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan”.
The purpose of the Order is to ensure the broadcasting of programs of nationwide radio channels throughout the country by carrying out improvement work on the radio broadcasting network, to provide state support mainly to private broadcasters in this direction, as well as to create the possibility of receiving radio signals at the same radio frequency in certain areas through the application of new technologies, and ultimately to increase the accessibility of the population to local radio programs to a higher level.
The briefing was attended by Elmir Velizade, Head of the Sector for Work with Non-Governmental Organizations and Communications of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Samir Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Digital Development and Transport, Fazil Novruzov, Head of the Office of the Audiovisual Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan, heads and representatives of the “Radio-Television Broadcasting and Satellite Communications” Production Union (Teleradio PU) and the State Radio Frequencies Administration, as well as media entities.
At the speeches on the implementation of the order, it was stated that the said Order is a great contribution to the development of the media in general and is an example of serious support provided by the state to FM radio broadcasters. In this regard, it was emphasized that it was not by chance that the briefing was held on the National Press Day.
It was noted that 176 unit of FM radio transmitters, 60 sets of antenna systems, 48 couplers, 67 satellite equipment, and 44 RDS (Radio Data System) devices, supplied from abroad, implemented for the modernization and expansion of the radio broadcasting network.
Also, 127 new radio frequency were allocated for 17 stations. Coordination of the allocated radio frequencies with neighbouring countries is ongoing.
Broadcasting equipment has already been installed in the vast majority of the intended stations and test broadcasts have begun. Currently, technical adjustment and repair work is ongoing at the stations.
Also, intensive work is being carried out to create the necessary infrastructure for uninterrupted power supply and to resolve other issues.
As a result of the implementation of the order, nationwide radio programs received in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula will also be available in the regions. Thus, the number of local radio programs received in the regions will increase in compare with number of foreign FM radio broadcasts from neighbouring countries.
